In the heart of Uganda’s Eastern Region, a transformative project is taking shape—one that blends environmental conservation, student wellness, and community empowerment. In partnership with the Rotaract Club of Soroti University, we are proud to introduce the Soroti University Green Park Project—a bold initiative to create a 5-acre green sanctuary on university grounds.
This isn’t just about planting trees. It’s about redefining what it means to learn, live, and grow in harmony with nature.
Located at Soroti University in Arapai, the park is designed to provide a serene, lush environment filled exclusively with indigenous tree species, including local fruit trees like mangoes, oranges, tamarinds, and cashew nuts. These trees are not only chosen for their resilience and cultural value but also for their role in improving biodiversity, air quality, and climate resilience in Soroti District.
But the Green Park goes far beyond aesthetics.
A Park with Purpose
- Student Wellbeing: With growing concern around student mental health, the park will serve as a refuge—a place for relaxation, recreation, study, and healing. The integration of green space into the university environment promotes physical activity, reduces stress, and enhances overall academic performance.
- Environmental Impact: In response to the changing climatic conditions in Soroti and surrounding regions, the park is a strategic investment in climate adaptation. It will contribute to local cooling, soil protection, and ecosystem restoration.
- Sustainable Income through Carbon Credits: Uniquely, the trees planted will be registered to generate carbon credits, creating an income stream for the local community. This means the park will not only offer environmental and wellness benefits—it will also support economic development in a sustainable, forward-looking way.
Join Us in Planting the Future
To bring this ambitious project to life, we are seeking to raise $128,330. These funds will support land preparation, tree planting, landscaping, park infrastructure, and the establishment of the carbon credit system.
This is more than a park—it is a legacy project that will uplift students, strengthen communities, and protect our planet for generations to come.
You can be part of this journey.
We invite you to make a donation and stand with us as we build this green sanctuary. Together, let’s invest in wellness, sustainability, and lasting impact for Soroti and beyond.
Donate today and help us turn this vision into a living, breathing reality.
